Sound Innovations Masterclass DVD - Alfred Music Publishing

"I have had the pleasure of knowing Simon and enjoying his superb musicianship for several years.  When we were looking for the perfect teacher/performer for the Sound Innovations Master Class DVDs, Simon was the ideal choice for both Clarinet and Alto Saxophone.  He was able to translate his love of music and appreciation of the marvelous complexities of these instruments into a wonderful introduction to young players.  His methodical approach and clarity of logic underscore his deep passion for music, and his professionalism shines through in every moment of the video.  The impact Simon will have on a generation of young woodwind players is enormous, and we are so glad to have him as one of our "virtual" teachers."

"Simon is quite simply a natural born teacher of music. He has been a major, positive influence on, and role model for, our 15 and 12 year old sons, teaching them weekly lessons both in-person and via Skype. He shifts gears effortlessly between the two and always provides the correct amount of challenge and positive reinforcement. Best of all, the children come to us asking for their lessons with Simon. And the results speak for themselves: the kids love music and both have advanced so rapidly it is astonishing. Riley was able to skip from beginning straight to advanced band, and Russel spent just one week in beginning band before being promoted to intermediate band. I can't imagine what we would do without Simon. Frankly, he is irreplaceable."

"It has been my great fortune to have had the opportunity to study saxophone and clarinet with Simon Hutchings for several years. His knowledge of woodwind instruments, musicianship, and overall musical talent never ceases to amaze me. Having Simon as my instructor can be likened to having a woodwind virtuoso, Groves, Harvard, and Oxford Music Reference Library all contained in one very talented person. Each lesson, whether it is live or via Skype, is informative and nurturing. His method of teaching encourages me to practice even when time management becomes an issue.
I have studied with several other woodwind instructors and attended a number of saxophone seminars in Mississippi, Kentucky, Georgia, and Nebraska. Each musical experience has contributed to my music education, but studying with Simon has been the 'glue' that is making it all fit together. Forever I will be grateful to Simon for his patience, knowledge, and encouragement. Thank you, Simon."

'History of Jazz' Lecture Recital Review

"I had the pleasure of hosting Simon Hutchings as part of the College of Central Florida's Music Lecture Series in the Fall of 2011. Simon presented a lecture to students, faculty, and community members on the history of jazz, demonstrating various styles with recorded examples and his own playing of clarinet, saxophone, and flute. Simon captivated the audience both with his concise synopsis of the modern jazz tradition and also his excellent selection of excerpts to illustrate key points in his lecture. Simon is a truly versatile musician and an excellent public speaker. His knowledge of jazz is immense yet he was able to present his lecture in a manner so that even non-musicians could understand. Bravo!"
